The new odds are so close because, in the bookmaker&#8217;s eyes, <i>Namungo FC <\/i>is starting the match with a 1.5 goal advantage.<\/p>\n<p>In this scenario, if you\u2019re betting ATS on <i>Namungo FC<\/i> to win with a +1.5 handicap, your bet would pay out so long as <i>Namungo FC<\/i> didn\u2019t lose by more than 1.5 goals.<\/p>\n<p>If <i>Azam<\/i> won the match 2-1 your bet would pay out because they didn\u2019t win by more than 1.5 goals or in other words they didn\u2019t cover the spread.<\/p>\n<p>If <i>Azam<\/i> won the match 3-1 your bet would not payout because <i>Azam<\/i> covered the 1.5 spread \u2014 winning by a margin of 2.<\/p>\n<p>You might be wondering why some (not all) handicap lines have a decimal point of .5 instead of an integer (whole number). This is because it\u2019s impossible to score half a goal, therefore the bet can\u2019t result in a push (tie).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Does_ATS_Mean_in_Sports_Betting\"><\/span>What Does ATS Mean in Sports Betting?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Betting against the spread (ATS) is a strategy focused on wagering against the moneyline favourite in a handicap market. In other words, you are betting that the favourite won\u2019t cover the point spread.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking back to the previous example, if you wagered on <i>Namungo FC<\/i> to win with a +1.5 handicap, you would have been betting against the spread.<\/p>\n<p>On the contrary, if you bet on <i>Azam<\/i> (the favourite) to win with a -1.5 handicap, you\u2019d be betting with the spread.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Bet_Against_the_Spread\"><\/span>How to Bet Against the Spread<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you think the oddsmakers set the handicap (virtual advantage) too high, then you would want to consider betting against the spread.<\/p>\n<p>With ATS sports betting, the question you have to answer boils down to a simple yes or no. The bookmaker thinks so too, which is why the odds are so low (1.07) for <i>Namungo FC.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The odds are high for <i>Azam<\/i> because you\u2019d be taking a huge risk picking them to win with a -3.5 handicap. They would have to completely dominate and win the game by four goals or more \u2014 which is unrealistic.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_of_ATS_Across_Popular_Sports\"><\/span>Use of ATS Across Popular Sports<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Some sports are more popular than others when betting ATS. The main aspect to consider if you\u2019re interested in betting against the spread is the point totals for each sport.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Basketball\"><\/span><b>Basketball<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Basketball games are a high scoring affair.
