2022 African Nations Championship Information

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) allows players who may not have a chance to play in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to showcase their skills on a big stage.

Here are some interesting facts about the tournament:

  • The tournament was first held in 2009 in Ivory Coast, with the host nation winning the inaugural edition.
  • The tournament is open to players who play in their respective domestic leagues and are eligible to play for the national team. This means that foreign-based players are not eligible to participate.
  • The most successful teams in the tournament's history are DR Congo and Morocco, who have both won the tournament twice (2009 and 2016; 2018 and 2020, respectively).
  • The tournament has been held in several African countries, including South Africa, Morocco, Rwanda, and Cameroon.
  • The competition serves as a qualifier for the FIFA Confederation Cup for the host nation.
  • The tournament is considered a stepping stone for young and upcoming players to showcase their talents on the international stage.

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is held bienally, and the format consists of a head to head matches in a group stage followed by knockout rounds.

In the group stage, participating nations are divided into several groups of four, with each team playing the other teams in their group once. The top team from each group, along with the best four runners-up, advanced to the quarter-finals. The tournament then proceeds with the quarter-finals, semifinals, and final to determine the champion.

The most recent CHAN tournament was held in 2022 in Algeria, and the CHAN tournament's eighth edition is going to be scheduled in 2023.

African Nations Championship Pre-Match Betting

African Nations Championship (CHAN) pre-match betting is the type where you place a wager on the outcome of a match before it begins. This can include betting on the winner of a game, the final score, or various other outcomes that the event may determine. Parimatch offers various betting markets, predictions, tricks, and payment methods, to give you a smooth betting experience.

Many different types of odds can appear pre-match during the African Nations Championship (CHAN), 2023 tournament; some examples include:

  • Moneyline odds are the most basic type of odds and simply indicate the likelihood of a team or individual winning a game or match. For example, a Moneyline of -200 means that you would have to wager TZS200 to win TZS100, while a Moneyline of +150 means that you would win TZS150 if they wager TZS100.
  • Futures odds: These are long-term bets placed on the outcome of a future event, such as a championship or tournament. For example, you might place a wager on the team you believe will win the CHAN 2023 before the season starts.
  • Correct Score odds: These odds allow you to place a wager on the exact score of a match.
  • First Goal Scorer odds: These odds allow you to place a wager on which player will score the first goal in a match.
  • Handicap odds: These odds are similar to point spread odds, but instead of a point spread, the handicap is a goal or runs, which the team must overcome to win the bet.

CHAN Live Betting

CHAN live betting, or in-play betting, is a type of match betting where you can place wagers on a game while it is in progress, seeing the latest scores. The main advantage of live betting is that it allows you to take advantage of in-game fluctuations in odds and make more informed decisions.

Additionally, live betting can add excitement and engagement to watching a game. However, it is important to note that live betting can also be riskier than traditional pre-game betting, as the in-game dynamics can be challenging to predict.

Many different types of odds can appear live during the African Nations Championship (CHAN). Still, some examples include:

  • Point spread odds: These odds are used in games where there is a significant difference in skill between the two teams. The favorite team is given a point spread that they must cover for you to win the wager.
For example, a point spread of -7 means that the favorite team must win by more than 7 points for you to win the wager, while a point spread of +7 means that the underdog team must either win the game or lose by less than 7 points.
  • Totals (Over/Under) odds: These are used to wager on the total number of points, runs, or goals scored in a game. For example, an over/under of 2.5 means you can wager on whether the total number of goals scored will be over or under 2.5.
  • Prop odds: These are bets on specific occurrences or events within a game, such as the first team to score, the total number of touchdowns in a game, or the number of yards a player will rush for.

CHAN Group Standings

Knowing the group stage of a tournament is vital for both faithful fans and bettors for a few reasons. First, it can provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of teams and their likelihood of advancing to later rounds.

For fans, this can enhance their enjoyment of the tournament by giving them a deeper understanding of the teams and players. For bettors, it can inform their betting decisions and increase their chances of making accurate predictions.

The group stage can also reveal potential upsets or dark horse teams that can add excitement to the tournament. Overall, understanding the group stage can enhance one's appreciation and understanding of the tournament.

The 2020 defending champions, Morocco, withdraw from CHAN in the 2022/23 season. They were not permitted to fly in for the competition due to deteriorating relations and persistent hostilities between them and Algeria, which have led to a severing of diplomatic ties and travel restrictions.

The tournament began with 18 teams divided into five groups for the group stage. The groups with the most victories (four teams) and the groups with the fewest victories (three teams) will both advance to the quarter-finals (only group winners advance to the quarter-finals). However, due to Morocco's absence, the qualifying criteria for Group C will need to be altered.

The final eight teams will fight in a winner-take-all bracket elimination stage, which may include a third-place game if required.

African Nations Championship Predictions & Tips

Here are some tips and personal predictions on how to place winning bets on the Parimatch Tanzania website:

1. Analyze expert predictions

As we have mentioned before, the Parimatch team works 24/7 to provide the best betting experience for you. This is why our experts and analytics work with historical data and mathematical models to provide a banger in the world of betting - the most profitable odds in the market. You can find them at any CHAN 2023 event and use the hints provided.

2. Manage your budget

We recommend managing the budget for betting and using it wisely. For example, if you are on a low budget, you can be more deliberate and place single bets on odds from 1.5 to 2.0.

If you have more finances to risk, then he should try accumulator bets using other football matches and/or higher odds with riskier outcomes such as correct score, half-time/full-time score, etc.

3. Wager on rising star players

There was a plethora of brilliant players on exhibit at the 2022 CHAN, so here are a few up-and-comers you might want to bet on:

  • Ahmed Kendouc, 23, is a player to watch for Algeria. He presently leads the Algerian league in scoring as an opportunistic threat, with eight goals.
  • Daniel Afriyie, a 21-year-old Ghanaian forward, is also hoping to make an impression on the game. He scored in all four of Ghana's CHAN qualifiers and was an unused substitute for the Black Stars' World Cup campaign in Qatar.
  • Lamine Camara of Senegal and Zini of Angola are two rising stars with the potential to make important contributions to their senior national teams in the not-too-distant future.
